Favorite Christmas Songs

It's no secret I love Christmas music. It stays on my mp3 player all year long. Although I am an atheist, I really love the imagery and beautiful words in religious music (all types - I'm not speaking solely of Christian religious music here). I guess I am with Richard Dawkins on this one. So, I thought I would share some of my favorite Christmas songs.

A Baby Just Like You - John Denver
Oh little angel, shining light
You've set my soul to dreaming
You've given back my joy in life
You've filled me with new meaning

Once In Royal David's City - Libera with Aled Jones
He came down to earth from heaven,
Who is God and Lord of all,
And His shelter was a stable,
And His cradle was a stall;
With the poor, and mean, and lowly,
Lived on earth our Saviour Holy.

Candlelight Carol - Aled Jones - I also love Neil Diamond's version of this.
How do you capture the wind on the water?
How do you count all the stars in the sky?
How can you measure the love of a mother,
Or how can you write down a baby's first cry?

When a Child is Born - Il Divo
A silent wish sails the seven seas
The winds of change whisper in the trees
And the walls of doubt crumble tossed and torn
This comes to pass, when a child is born

Hark the Herald Angels Sing - King's College Cambridge
Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings

One King - Point of Grace
One king held the frankincense
One king held the myrrh
One king held the purest gold
One king held the hope of the world

Let There Be Peace on Earth - PS22 Chorus
Let there be peace on Earth
and let it begin with me
Let there be peace on Earth
The peace that was meant to be

Joseph's Lullaby - Mercy Me
I believe the glory of Heaven
Is lying in my arms tonight
Lord, I ask that He for just this moment
Simply be my child

What Child Is This? - Moody Blues
What Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds'
watch are keeping?

O Come O Come Emmanuel - Enya
O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
Who orderest all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.

The hope that has slumbered for 2,000 years,
the promise that silenced 1,000 fears.
A faith that can hobble an ocean of tears,

the peace of Christmas Day.
The branch that bears the bright holly,

the dove that rests in yonder tree.
The light that shines for all to see,

the peace of Christmas Day.

We Three Kings - Hugh Jackman, David Hobson and Peter Cousen (you have to watch this)
O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

And here is one for the atheists out there.

Atheists Don't Have No Songs - Steve Martin
