10 Good Things on a Monday 5/23

My 10 favorite literary quotes. (As pulled from my Goodreads profile. And by literary, I mean about books or from books.)

1. Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly. - Neil Gaiman

2. Hi Sandy, I won! - Ellen Raskin
This one is from the book The Westing Game. You have to read it to understand it. This is my favorite childhood book, and every time I read this quote, I smile.

3. Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them. - Lemony Snicket

4. All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king. - JRR Tolkien

5. I was brave and I wrote a book and that means I can do anything. - Mark Haddon

6. Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. - Dr. Seuss

7. The true American patriot is by definition skeptical of the government. - Sarah Vowell

8. The world was hers for the reading. - Betty Smith

9. I don't get nearly enough credit in life for the things I manage not to say. - Meg Rosoff

10. The best way to get even with anyone is to put them in the rear view mirror on the way to something better. - Joe Hill

30 Day Challenge - Day 6

(See here for the complete list of days & questions.)

Day 06- Favorite super hero and why

I'm going to go with Iron Man here just because I have an Iron Man figure on my desk and he cracks me up with the way he scowls at everything.

I also love the Iron Man movies and the sense of humor that Robert Downey Jr. brings to the character.

I don't think they technically count as superheroes but I also love the Endless from the Sandman comic book series. (Which is one of the only comic book series I've read all the way through.) They're pretty awesome.

(See here for the complete list of days & questions.)

Day 01- A recent picture of you and 15 interesting facts about yourself

This is the most recent picture of me in which you can see my face and I don't have a lizard on my head.

1. I am deaf but people almost never realize it right away.
2. I own a bearded dragon named Loki.
3. I am very easily amused and most of the time people do not get why I am laughing.
4. I get sunburned really easily.
5. I very much prefer peace, quiet, and being on my own.
6. I type about 110-120 words per minute. And no, I haven't broken a keyboard yet.

14. I don't really like being in groups of people or being social for long amounts of time. I'm a total introvert, but I do like people. Just... individually, I guess.

June Nineteenth

Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly. -Neil Gaiman

It's afternoon on a Saturday and I'm on break at work, thinking about how my weekend will go, looking forward to having the next two Saturdays off. It may be hot outside, but it's a day when I feel restless, when I would like to be anywhere but my desk. Settled in bed with a good book (currently reading Feed by Mira Grant), or sitting by the edge of the pool watching Cheyenne, my in-laws' dog, clown around in the water. Or even in my computer chair watching my new bearded dragon, Loki, run around like crazy from one side of her terrarium to the other.

Since I'm starting this blog, I guess I should give a bit of introduction. My name is Megan. I'm 24, and live in Arizona with my husband Scotty and Loki. We got married two years ago, and life has had its normal ups and downs since then. Right now, we live with my in-laws, as life begins to turn around a bit for us. Scotty has just been hired at a behavioral health company, doing web programming for them. We are saving up to buy our own home, and I wanted to start this blog to document life along the way.

You may have come here from my other blog, Hearing Sparks. That blog is a combination of my personal story of life with hearing loss as well as news and information about deafness. I have been deaf since I was four years old, with a progressive loss that has left me with deadened nerves in my ears. I wear hearing aids, and function just fine in life; like anyone else, I have my own challenges, and it's my hope that my blog has helped a few other people since I've started it.

I intend for this blog to be a little more personal (and probably updated less often). If you are a family member or friend visiting, welcome and I hope you enjoy this way of catching up on my life.
